In the latest Silver Creek romance from USA Today bestselling author Maisey Yates, former rodeo star Cade Mitchell may never ride again, but there are still a few things he can do—like care for the woman he loves.

Amber Johnson has always thought of her best friend Cade as an older brother. A really hot older brother. But growing up in foster care, she learned to rely only on herself. As much as she likes stealing glances at Cade’s chiseled jaw and painted-on jeans, she resents the way he swoops in like a superhero to fix things for her.

When former rodeo rival Jim Davis starts harassing Amber to sell her grandfather’s failing ranch, Cade swoops in once again. To send Jim on his way, Cade pretends to be Amber’s boyfriend, moving in to help fix the place up. With her grandfather behind the idea, Amber and Cade have to keep the charade going—whether she likes it or not.

But as their make-believe romance starts to heat up, maybe Cade and Amber will learn to admit that they both could use a little saving…

The cool thing about a Maisey Yates book is that you know what you’re going to get. She has character-driven stories, fun and funny dialogue, and sexy and likeable characters.

This is the third book in the series, but even though previous couples make appearances, you never feel confused. You can tell that they must be from the previous books because Ms. Yates does an excellent job of bringing the reader up to speed without being repetitive or confusing.

In this friends to lovers book, we see best friends Amber and Cade finally wake up and see each other. Really see each other. Amber bounced around foster care until her grandparents took her in. She spent her teen years both pushing them away and hoping they wouldn’t toss her out. Once she realized they wouldn’t be sending her packing, she tried her hardest to make up for those crazy first few years. That seems to be a theme for Amber. She takes care of her grandpa, grateful every day for him, and even at twenty seven, she stills seems to be unintentionally trying to make up for those teen years.

Cade was a big time bronc rider in the rodeo, and a couple of years ago, he was nearly killed in an accident that was no accident. Now he helps his brother and sister run the family ranch, but really he isn’t doing what he wants. He’s just following his brother’s direction.

When someone comes sniffing around Amber’s home trying to buy the ranch from her grandpa, Cade steps in and says that he’s taking over the ranch since he’s moving in. As Amber’s boyfriend. Who lives there. Because they’re together. And it’s not awkward at all  LOL (it really is. But it’s cute awkward).

With the two of them living together, it’s a different dynamic. They both realize that they’ve never made a move on the other because they didn’t want to ruin their friendship. Amber is stubborn, Cade is dealing with a whole lot of drama at home, and the two of them level up their relationship.

Amber’s grandfather end up in the hospital, Cade ends up with an old grudge popping back up, and Amber winds up with a whole lot more on her plate than she ever expected. The two of them learn to deal with the new direction their relationship is taking them, and at the same time they learn that they’re stronger together than apart.

If you like her Copper Ridge series, the Silver Creek series is perfect for you.
