The Chieftain by Margaret Mallory
 
Prepare yourself for the Amazing conclusion to Margaret Mallory’s Return of the Highlander’s Series.  I love a good Highlander story and Mrs. Mallory has the ability to draw you back in time to experience life in the Highlands.  She brings her characters to life and you can’t help but fall in love. She has taken us on three wonderful adventures so far in The Guardian, The Sinner and The Warrior.  Now we finally get to hear Conner’s story.  As the new McDonald Chieftain, Conner knows that he has a responsibility to the clan to marry well; he has postponed for long enough. He needs an alliance with one of the larger clans to have the military support to reclaim the rest of his lands from the hated MacLeod’s.   Who will fill this role?
Ilysa – the younger sister to Duncan the Captain of the Guard has secretly loved Conner for years.  Hidden behind clothing that is not only drab but too big on her, she has stood by Conner’s side and successfully managed his castle since her mother died when she was 16.  Having been widowed after only three months of a loveless marriage, Ilysa’s only wish is to experience a taste of love with Conner even though she knows there can never be a happily ever after for her. Will they find a way to be together?  I’m not telling. 
I personally drove 300 miles round trip to meet Margaret Mallory and get a signed copy of this book.   I had a great time getting to know her and although I’m sad to see the series end I have been assured by Margaret that she has a new series in the works.  I look forward to reading more of her exciting stories.
