A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare
My rating: 4 of 5 flames
I was really excited to read this story and I think that it absolutely lived up to my expectations.
Minerva is the spectacle-wearing, intelligent, geologist sister to the lovely Diana Hightower, who rumor has it, is going to be offered a proposal by Colin. Well that just won’t do. Colin is not only a rake, but he’s a bit of an ass too. Minerva won’t allow him to propose to her sister; Diana deserves to marry for love.
And she has a plan.
Minerva’s plan is to use Colin to get to a Geology symposium in Scotland, in the meantime, she’ll pay Colin, and they just have to fake as if they’re running off to Gretna. But not before a few misunderstandings occur:
“. . .you’re deranged if you think I’d ever marry you.”
“But I though you just said–“
“Run away with you, yes. Marry you?” She made an incredulous noise in her throat. “Please.”
The scene where Colin tells her no is right at the beginning, and it was the first time I teared up. It was heartbreaking. And worse, it was witnessed by the lady in Colin’s bed that Min didn’t know about. But ever resilient, Min plans to go, and hopes that Colin has a teeny shred of decency inside that will make him join her.
He does.
Grudgingly.
Thus begins the adventure of the two of them on their way to Scotland. The “road trip” was full of adventure, romance, and lies. Lots and lots of lies. Colin likes to tease Min, so much so that he never calls her by her name. It’s always something new. And she believes he genuinely doesn’t remember her name! It’s fabulous. He’s the little boy who pulls the pigtails of the girl he likes. And he does so to Min, well, metaphorically speaking. He teases her, he gets her to break out of her shell, and she doesn’t even realize it until the end, when Colin realized she was too good for him.
“You risked everything Min…and I destroyed those dreams.”
“You didn’t destroy my dreams. You broke me out of my shell. There was bound to be a bit of a mess.”
Awww. . .
This was a fabulous book, and if you love Historical Romance, bluestockings, spinsters, or just a beautiful story, then this book is for you.
Oh I love that! I’ve never read Tessa Dare but it does sound fantastic. I love that teasing kind of relationship and one of my favorite plot lines is the “fake mates” that end up falling for each other.
Will definitely have to check this one out 🙂
