Vampire Betrayed by Rachel Carrington
My rating: 3 of 5 flamess
Hello sexy cover! Joaquin has done something he swore he’d never do-he fell in love. Ariana loves him too and they have a fantastic 3 months together. But Ariana has been getting emails from someone claiming to want to help her. Ariana is urged to ask Joaquin about himself, and lo and behold, he finally tells her thinking she can handle his secret.
Joaquin is a vampire.
Ariana feels betrayed that he’s been lying to her for so long, and wants nothing more than to get away.
But Charon, a very powerful ally (or enemy), finds her. And molds her into the perfect weapon against vampires. Then she turns her loose.
I had a hard time liking the heroine, but after sitting on it a while, I think I understand her a little better. She felt betrayed by her lover (Joaquin), and she reacted emotionally. Finding out her mentor was using her only added icing on the cake of betrayal.
I also liked how she wasn’t ready to jump at the chance of going with Joaquin-she knew she needed time to sort through all of the major upheavals in her life—and there had been a couple of huge revelations in a short amount of time.
It was an interesting plot-I liked that aspect of it a lot. In fact, this is the first time I’ve seen such a take on the vampire/hunter relationship and I loved it. The heroine, it turns out, isn’t fighting for the greater good, but rather for the bad guys. In essence, she is one of the bad guys, and has no idea. It’s an excellent plot device that worked out well.
Anyone who wants a fast-paced and sexy vampire story will enjoy curling up with Rachel Carrington’s latest.
