Top-off Tuesday: What better way than to top off a good book than with a GREAT Cover!
Every week, Amanda from On a Book Bender, Christi from Smitten with Reading, and Felicia from the Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog want to see those Top Off covers that grab your attention! To play along, share your favorite covers (old, new, or coming soon). Every once in a while there are covers that just make you say Oh My! Sometimes it is good, sometimes it is bad, and sometimes it is head scratching.
This week’s Top-Off pick is Grave Destinations by Lori Sjoberg. Now, this book sounds like a good PNR read, and I am adding the series to my TBR. HOWEVER, the cover says “beach read.” This cover is pretty misleading about the book. I mean, the protagonist is A)female and B) a Reaper. There is nothing deadly about the cover at all, it’s all bright colors and pretty man-abs (not that I’m complaining). Oh yeah, the setting is on a cruise ship, according to the blurb. So, I’m at a loss as to how this cover fits the content. For those of you who read this book, any input here?
Summary from Goodreads:
She’s sexy-fierce, resourceful—and will do anything to protect victims as innocent as she once was. But this kick-ass reaper never bargained on meeting her not-quite-human match…or putting their very souls on the line.
A luxury Caribbean cruise is Ruby Dawson’s idea of hell even under the best circumstances. Too many bad memories bubble up—especially of the wrenching injustice that made her a reaper. It doesn’t help that Jack Deverell is making this routine soul-collecting job twice as difficult with his devilish good looks and not-so-innocent questions. Now, as several unscheduled, unexplainable deaths throw passengers and crew into a panic, Jack becomes the prime suspect. The only way Ruby can save him is to challenge the decades-old curse threatening his soul. And as a malevolent unstoppable force turns their immortality into a fatal weakness, Ruby and Jack must risk their fragile humanity to save Fate’s delicate balance and their own unexpected destiny…
I have been enjoying this series. I have a thing for reapers and like the mystery/suspense angle. Nice pic!
yeah, ever since Charlie Davidson, I’ve loved reapers too 🙂
Yeah, I’m with you. That cover doesn’t scream paranormal to me at all. But… he’s still very nice to look at. *goes back to eyeball his abs*
I’m not normally a surfer-dude fan, but this one could convince me…paranormal, too…hmmm. Even if the cover doesn’t fit the story, I like it! smiles….
Wow! I never would have guessed that this book was about reapers! There’s nothing paranormal about it at all. If I hadn’t stopped by to read your post this title would have never crossed my radar so thanks for that!
I saw this book on someone’s book haul and was intrigued. When I saw it was paranormal, I got excited 🙂
Did anyone else notice the Reaper on the surfboard?
zooming in…. hahaha! There IS a reaper on the surfboard. Definitely didn’t notice it. The man-chest distracted. Plus, the reaper is just a black sketch, doesn’t look like much until you REALLY look at it. Nice call!
I just finished this book over the weekend and it was a lot of fun 🙂 I liked Ruby!
