This fast-paced long novella/short novel is amazing. For anyone following the Immortals After Dark series, this is Rok’s book. His heroine is a new to us character. A witch named Poppy. I think she and Rok are now one of my favorite couples! I can’t tell you how excited I was to dive into this book. If you don’t know Rok, he’s a smoke demon. And two things are important to know about smoke demons: 1) all demons have a fated mate, but the only way they’ll know her is through sex. Yep you heard that. So demons get around. 2) smoke demons forge a bond every time they sleep with someone and that person can then summon them, against their will, and the smoke demon will disappear and reappear to the summoner.

So now that you know that, imagine the perfect date. Imagine he’s feeling it, she’s feeling it, and then imagine your demon date being summoned by another woman and disappearing from you. Then imagine waiting for over an hour and he doesn’t reappear. That’s how these two first met. So Poppy is over Rok. Done. Finished. Totally and completely fine.

And two years later, as she approaches a seriously spooky house on Halloween, imagine the mercenary Rok who left you waiting is standing right next to you. You have eyes on the prize, and he has eyes on you. But the big question is, “why?”

She’s there to find something valuable to her, and only her, he’s there for her, and only her. But with nightmares lurking around every corner, how can they find what they’re searching for?

This book has my heart. Rok and Poppy have my heart. Kresley Cole owns my freaking heart now. You want this book. Kresley Cole is a master at writing fated mates who love each other, she creates plots that are so intense you can’t turn pages fast enough, and she always delivers. ALWAYS. You want this book. And for the first time, I feel confident saying that you can read this book out of order from the others. There might be some minor spoilers, but you won’t be lost or confused.

In short, get this book! And Kresley? You can keep my heart. I’ll get it back from you with the next book.

***I read an advanced copy of this book, but I also own it.
