In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...

Ice rescue diver Derek Warner never meant to be a hero. But when two little girls go missing, he's the first in line to bring them home-even if that means scouring the wilderness with the woman he once loved and lost, Artemis Rey.

Artemis has never stopped wanting Derek. Now, racing to find the girls before it's too late, minutes turn to hours. Night falls. Old flames rekindle. And a danger grows in the darkest wilderness that may be more than even the Search and Rescue brotherhood can hope to face...

This is the prequel to the Search and Rescue series. It seems to be free everywhere, so grab it while you can.

This begins as a field trip for the third and fourth graders of the elementary school. A couple of girls dare a boy to go out onto the ice where the Search and Rescue team are giving a demonstration. The little boy falls into the ice, and a true rescue op begins. But once all of that dies down, the two little girls are discovered to be missing.

Derek, the rescuer, and Artemis, the teacher, organize a new search and rescue op, and begin to search for the little girls.

But Derek and Artie have a history together.

With this particular plot, I think they needed that history, because otherwise the 1 night they spend together searching for the girls would not have been enough. But they’re able to clear out old misunderstandings, find the girls, and live happily ever after, of course.

I liked the plot. I think it felt real, and totally something that could actually happen. The romance worked because the two were high school sweethearts, and the search was well done. I kept wondering if the feeling of being watched, and the evidence of an arsonist will come to play in the next couple books.

Definitely grab this book, it’s a good entrance into the Search and Rescue series, you get a feel for her writing and characters, and I think you guys will like it.
