Clover Deering is living her best life. Kind of. Maybe. Okay, so, not at all. The owner of Fur-Ever Pet Spa is deeply in debt and battling a temper that scares even herself. Things go from bad to catastrophe when a terrifying man claiming to be a berserker king demands an impossible force a rival royal to welcome evil into his heart. In exchange, he'll gift her with a prize she cannot resist-meeting the twin she never knew existed. The problem? King Viktor Endris isn't just scary, he's downright feral.

When captured by Viktor, Clover enacts her own plan. Tame the unhinged warrior, turn him into an ally, and use him to rescue her sister. Not an easy task as Viktor is at war with ferocious turul-shifters, talks to an invisible friend and flips from controlled to chaos in an instant. As their undeniable connection deepens, she discovers a heartbreaking truth. Falling for her is Viktor's only path to ruin. Yet without his downfall, her twin's fate is sealed. The worst part? Clover just might be falling for him, too. But in the end, only one can survive. Her man, or her sister.

I loved The Wrong Bride so much that it was with genuine excitement that I downloaded this book. You guys. I had to force myself to savor this book instead of devouring it in one sitting. I just didn’t want to leave the world that quickly.

Clover Deering is adopted. And while she’s finishing up working at her pet grooming salon, a large hunky man tells her he needs her…he needs her to push a borderline crazy berserker over the edge. A totally normal interaction, right? Unfortunately for Clover, she doesn’t have a choice. He just takes her and deposits her in another realm/dimension. One thing this man tells her, though, is that he knows who her biological parents are, and that she has a sister. Clover’s new mission is to survive this realm, not turn anyone crazy, and find out about her sister.

But the new realm she’s in keeps throwing surprises at her. One of those surprises is Viktor, a berserker king who is…not crazy, but not all there either. He’s hearing a voice, his brain is fogged, things like that. But when he’s with Clover, he has clarity. So while he doesn’t trust her, he keeps her close. And she wants to be kept close.

There are so many things that I love about this new series, and the world/world-building are up at the top. I think these two authors work so well together, and I look forward to everything they write. My favorite little Easter egg, or hidden gem in this book is that Clover loves a certain cozy mystery series about a kooky graveyard caretaker who solves mysteries (it’s their Jane Ladling Mystery series). Such a cute and fun little detail!

In true Gena and Jill fashion, the ending always surprises the reader, and even though we know there’s a happy ending for us, it’s how we get there that matters. And this journey is wild. I’m all in on this series, and I can’t wait for the next book.

The authors I believe are classifying this series as Romantasy, but don’t let that fool you. This is 100% also Paranormal Romance just minus the sexytimes. This is the type of book that crosses over, or even straddles the two genres. I think this series is one that everyone will enjoy, so if you were thinking about dipping your toes into the Romantasy pool, now is your time!
