Royal Affair is the first novel in a new contemporary romance series by author Parker Swift.  Royal Affair is a refreshingly new story with a fresh romance trope, a modern day titled gentleman becomes enamored with a bright young woman and the connection between the pair morphs into a romance.  Royal Affair is one part dominant/ alpha male romance, part cinderella story, and overall enjoyable romance read.

There is quite a bit to enjoy about reading Royal Affair, the characters are believable, and even though Dylan is a Duke, the story-line is a plausible romance (at least to my romantic reader mind).  Lydia is easy to relate to, she is a hard-working woman with ambitions and goals.  Neither Dylan or Lydia were looking for a relationship, and there were complexities because of Dylan’s need to keep his private life private.  Royal Affair is just the first book in the series, so it’s the book about how their relationship gets started.  There is definitely more to come for the couple and I am looking forward to reading more of their story.

I can’t say that Royal Affair is the best read ever, but this book is enjoyable and fun to read.  I enjoyed that it was a bit different from recent books I’ve read.  I was originally drawn to this book because of the “royal” aspect, it sounded fresh to me and the book was pretty good.
