I had the pleasure to do an interview with the fabulous Zoë Archer. She's provided us with some great answers to my silly questions and given someone the chance to win a copy of her book SWEET REVENGE, book 1 in the Nemisis series. Oh my, don't you just love that cover??
Where do you currently live?
Right now, I live in Los Angeles, just a couple of miles from where I grew up….which is a little odd.
Are you Married? kids? pets?
Yes! I’m married to fellow romance author Nico Rosso. We have two cats, both rescues. One used to be feral and we think he’s also the head of a global financial syndicate (he’s very smart and mysterious). The other is a goofball.
What/who/ How did you get started writing?
I’ve been writing since I was a little kid. It’s always been something that I’ve done, even though I went through different ideas about what I wanted to do for a living (book illustrator, costume designer, literature professor). I just always kept coming back to writing, and now here I am, nearly 15 books later!
Do you want to thank one person in particular for giving that extra push?
My mom taught me to read, and I would have become so interested in writing without my love of reading. But Nico has been my critique partner, beta reader, plot guru, action scene coordinator, and so much more. I really wouldn’t be as far along in my career without him.
How many books did you attempt before you were published?
There were some half-finished, terrible romance novels I wrote in high school. Then I wrote about three before I had my first book published, which was LADY X’S COWBOY.
Do you have any MUST haves to write? Food, drink or time?
Quiet is really important. I can’t focus with a ton of chaos around me. That’s why headphones and music help.
Which novel is your favorite of your books?
Oh, God, the Sophie’s Choice of interview questions. My favorite is usually the one I’m working on. How’s that for being evasive? *w*
Who is your favorite character?
While I adore all of my characters, I’ve always loved Catullus Graves—the shy, waistcoat-loving, freckled woman-fancying mechanical genius from the Blades of the Rose series. He was in all four books, and I just grew to love him.
How many books do you have in the work now?
If you mean how many have I published (including digital), then it’s 15 (one under my real name), with four in the pipeline (the next Ether Chronicles book, two full-length Nemesis novels and one Nemesis holiday novella).
For your next book, What is the name and when is the release date?
SKIES OF GOLD, a steampunk romance in the Ether Chronicles series I wrote with Nico, will be out in August.
What inspired you write this book?
SWEET REVENGE was inspired by my love of Robin Hood-type stories, but with a little darker, grittier edge. I wanted to create a secret organization in Victorian England that helped those that couldn’t help themselves. Nemesis, Unlimited has a motto: Vengeance at any cost.
Do you like writing hot romance scenes?
Oh, yes! Though I usually have a thesaurus nearby, since I can’t just keep using the word “thrust.”
Do you have plans for another new book/series?
Oh, always, but I play my cards close to the vest. I’ve been thinking about trying my hand at hot contemporary, though.
What is the 1st book you remember reading and falling in love with?
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I love its wit and wordplay, plus the Jules Feiffer illustrations.
Who is your favorite author? Favorite series?
As far as romance goes, I have several. Just for starters, there’s Tessa Dare’s Spindle Cove series, Julie Anne Long’s Pennyroyal Green series, Joanna Bourne’s spy series, and Shana Abé’s Drakon series.
What is your favorite quote?
Amor vincit Omnia, which means “Love conquers all.”
Do you have a favorite book cover?
The covers for Meljean Brook’s Iron Seas series are fantastic, literally.
Naughtiest book you ever read?
Anything by Lauren Dane or Vivian Arend.
Favorite color?
Purple, of course. (My hair has purple streaks right now.)
Tell us something no one knows.
In the 6th grade, I pretended not to like Duran Duran because everyone else liked them, but secretly I loved them (and continue to do so).
Sweet Revenge: A Nemesis, Unlimited Novel
Book 1
The first in a breathtaking new series about the dangerous business of undercover revenge—and the undeniable pleasure of passion…
In the business of vengeance
When Jack Dalton escapes from Dunmoor Prison, he has only one thing in mind—finding the nobleman who murdered his sister and making him pay. But when he reaches the inn where the Lord Rockley is rumored to be staying, three well-dressed strangers are there to meet him instead. And the pretty blonde is aiming a pistol right at his head …
Desire is always dangerous
Joining Nemesis, Unlimited has made Eva Warrick much more than the well-mannered lady she appears to be—one who can shoot, fight, and outsmart any man in the quest to right the injustices so often suffered by the innocent. She’s not afraid of the burly escaped convict, but she is startled by their shared attraction. She and her partners need Jack’s help to get to Rockley, but Eva finds she wants Jack for scandalous reasons all her own…
Zoë Archer is an award-winning romance author who thinks there’s nothing sexier than a man in tall boots and a waistcoat. As a child, she never dreamed about being the rescued princess, but wanted to kick butt right beside the hero. She now applies her master’s degrees in Literature and Fiction to creating butt-kicking heroines and heroes in tall boots. She is the author of the acclaimed BLADES OF THE ROSE series and the paranormal historical romance series, THE HELLRAISERS. She and her husband, fellow romance author Nico Rosso, created the steampunk world of THE ETHER CHRONICLES together. Her new gritty Victorian romance series, NEMESIS, UNLIMITED, launches this Spring. Zoë and Nico live in Los Angeles.

Sweet Revenge looks great, and I look forward to reading it.
And now I feel the need to keep a count of all the variations of “thrust” you’ve used in your books… 😉 I can’t wait to read this one!
I’m looking forward to reading Sweet Revenge. I’ve read some excellent reviews for it, and I think both the characters and the plot sound intriguingly different.
don’t enter me (obviously) but I’m buying this one right now!
