For Jack Shepherd, tiger shapeshifter and former rebel leader, nothing in life has prepared him for this dead end. Dead End, Florida, to be exact.
When swarms of treasure hunters descend on Dead End in search of legendary pirate Captain Jean Lafitte's fabled lost gold, chaos crashes down on the normally quiet town. When the only treasure chests found have corpses instead of coins, Jack has to spring into action. Because sometimes it takes a tiger’s eye to see the truth.
Tess Callahan, who owns a pawn shop in the strangest town in Florida, is barely over the last dead bodies on her doorstep when her new private investigator neighbor asks for her help again.
But it's her town, and she'll take on anybody to protect it. Even treasure hunters, vampire slayers, and the ghost of a certain French pirate who still thinks he's in charge.
Welcome to Dead End, Florida, where ghosts can get jaywalking tickets too. And welcome to the Tiger's Eye Mysteries!
Beware! This novel contains: magic, shape shifters, humor, vampires, a taxidermied alligator, pirate treasure, ghosts, buried jewels, gold, gunshots, bad singing, delicious baked goods, terrible parking, the FBI, swamp commandos, tigers, special agents, flirting, belly laughs, comedy, humor, and a pawn shop.
I’ve been binge reading the Tiger’s Eye Mysteries and really enjoying them. This is a fun and light Cozy Mystery meets Urban Fantasy, Cozy UF if you will.
Jack and Tess have a problem on their hands; a ghostly pirate and his booty. I’m always amazed at how much this author can pack into a story and not make it feel over the top. And if it does, it’s because it’s meant to feel that way. I mean, tiger shifter, pirate ghost, hidden treasure…it should feel ridiculous, but it works!
This is the third book and Tess and Jack still haven’t had their promised date. Things just keep happening. If you haven’t been following along, Tess can see someone’s death when she touches them. She lives through it in that moment, so she avoids touching people. Jack is a tiger shifter, and he was the leader of the Rebellion (Warriors of Poseidon series-excellent PNR). Now he’s back home in Dead End, FL. A small town with well, a pirate ghost. And unfortunately, there’s murder afoot. Jack and Tess once more jump into action to save their small town, and maybe finally get that date.
This series is my favorite Cozy UF out there. It’s a series made up of short novels, or longish novellas, depending on your viewpoint. This series is perfect for when you want a short, upbeat, quirky, yet still action-packed story. I”m also really glad to see Jack getting his own series, even if Tess is the main narrator. I really like Tess. She may be my favorite Alyssa Day heroine yet, and I’m so glad she and Jack are together.
The first book is often free or on a good sale, so if you’re looking at reading this book, I’d say like most UF, start at the beginning.
