Broken Promises by J.K. Coi Series: Seasons of Invention #2 Published by Carina Press on September 10, 2012 Genres: Steampunk Pages: 94 Buy at Amazon • Buy at Barnes & Noble • Goodreads Former ballerina Callie Carlisle is determined to rebuild her life with her new mechanical limbs. She's just learned to accept the enhancements that saved her from certain death when she experiences uncontrollable twinges and flashes of light that obscure her vision. Terrified of literally falling apart, she resists telling her husband. Jasper's already vowed to keep her out of harm, and she doesn't want to worry him further. When the War Office's General Black arrives with an urgent mission—rescue the doctor who created Callie's enhancements—she has no choice but to accept. A rogue agent and former patient of the scientist believes the biomechanical modifications he received are killing him, and he's out for revenge. Callie must reach the doctor before it's too late. But with an overprotective Jasper at her side, and her alarming symptoms getting more frequent, will she be able to hold herself together long enough to save the doctor...and herself? This is an older book that I’m certain I read, but it looks like I never reviewed it. I re-read it this afternoon, and it’s got a really good Steampunk world. Broken Promises is the second book in the series of a husband...Read More

Betrayed by Claire Robyns Published by Carina Press on July 5, 2010 Genres: Historical Romance, Scottish Romance Goodreads Two Feuding Families Amber Jardin has no taste for the bitter feud started before her father's banishment. But now that he's passed, she's had to return to Scotland and his barbaric people. After her bloodthirsty uncle kidnaps one of the family's rivals, Amber is in turn captured by Krayne Johnstone, the enemy laird. Despite their enmity, their attraction is immediate—and unfortunate, as Amber has sworn to escape. One Lusty Temptation Krayne is amazed at the wildcat's repeated attempts to flee. He should steel himself against her beguiling ways—yet with time, he is driven more witless with lust. When the ransom exchange fails and Krayne is left with Amber, he finds he cannot tolerate the thought of her with another man—and she cannot tolerate the thought of returning to her uncle's home. Will passion and love win out over mistrust and betrayal in time to prevent an all-out war? This is a review from way back in 2010 and I don’t think I ever posted it! Let’s fix that! LOL ***I really want to say I got this from netgalley, but I can’t remember. The blurb for Betrayed makes it sound awesome!! Add that to the dozen or so 5 star reviews, and I was so excited to read a great medieval...Read More
Dragons & Dirigibles by Cindy Spencer Pape Series: Gaslight Chronicles #7 Published by Carina Press on January 1, 2014 Genres: Steampunk Source: Advance Reader Copy, NetGalley Buy at Amazon • Buy at Barnes & Noble • Goodreads When airship engineer Melody McKay's dirigible explodes and plunges her into the yard of a gothic manor, she suspects foul play. With her ankle injured--an indignity far too feminine for her taste--she resolves to crack the mystery while in the care of Victor Arrington, the stuffy-yet-disarming Earl of Blackwell. Ex-Royal Navy Captain Victor runs a tight house and is on a mission to protect his niece and foil a ring of smugglers using fire-breathing metal dragons. He has no time for romantic attachments. Particularly not with women who fall from the sky wearing trousers and pilot's goggles. As he and Melody navigate a treachery so deep it threatens the lives of everyone in Black Heath, the earl becomes unexpectedly attached to his fiery houseguest, and Melody discovers a softness in her heart for him. But when the smugglers strike, there's more at risk than just their future together. I like the Gaslight Chronicles series a lot, but I have to say that this isn’t the strongest in the bunch. If you want the world building you get in a fabulous Steampunk, unfortunately you’ll have to read in order. However, the romance works...Read More

This book may be unsuitable for people under 18 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence. Forbidden Fires Series: Bondage & Breakfast Published by Carina Press on April 1, 2013 Genres: Contemp Romance, Erotica Pages: 139 Source: NetGalley Buy at Amazon • Buy at Barnes & Noble • Goodreads From Author’s Website: A year ago, Detective Delia Robinson and Fire Marshal Colin Butler got up close and personal while working a case. But their sizzling relationship didn’t last. Now there’s a serial arsonist on the loose, and it’s up to Delia and Colin to bring him down—if they can resist their attraction long enough to concentrate on the investigation. Delia quickly sees the connection between the crime scenes: elements of BDSM. Though she denies it, Colin is stunned by the realization that his former lover is aroused by the idea of bondage play. And suddenly he can’t stop fantasizing about being the one to bind her… Unsure how Colin would react, Delia never revealed her desire to be dominated in the bedroom. But she’ll finally have the chance to find out when they go deep undercover—as a married couple at a B&B offering classes in domination and submission… I give this one high marks for the chemistry between these two, especially once they have to start pretending to be a...Read More

Rating System Explanation
Five stars are like six-pack abs on a really tan, hunky guy not wearing much. They make us drool, we stroke them (the books, not the guys! - sometimes the guys...) and want to make sweet, sweet love to them. Five stars is the hottest, we mean, highest honor.
Four stars is a total hunkalicious of burning love, but maybe we didn't like his hair for some reason. We still think he's hot, and we're still going to recommend him, we mean, the book, to readers because it's a damn fine ass, we mean book.
Three stars = that awkward guy at the party. He's cute and you know he's cute, and if you look at him the right way, he even looks like Brad Pitt a little, but there are flaws. Surprisingly, he's good in bed (because you got drunk and shit happens).
Remember that - yeah we don't either.
One star is like expecting a somewhat attractive guy and being sent a Grumpy cat meme. We appreciate the effort, but no. This book was not for us. Grumpy cat might want to use it for litter though.
