SHE KNOWS BETTER THAN TO SAY “I DO”

After a humiliating end to her engagement, investment banker Sidney Sinclair is done with commitment-phobic men. But when her sister winds up engaged after a whirlwind courtship, she’s thrown in to close contact with exactly the kind of sexy playboy she wants to avoid—the gorgeous best man. She’s stuck with him, for better or worse, until her sister walks down the aisle, but that doesn’t mean she has to give in to his smooth advances, no matter how tempting they are…

BUT HE MAKES IT HARD TO SAY “I DON’T”

Special Agent Vaughn Roberts always gets his man on the job and his woman in bed. So Sidney’s refusal to fall for his charms only makes him more determined to win over the cool and confident redhead. Only what starts out as a battle of wills ends up as a serious play for her heart. Because the one woman who refuses to be caught may be the only one Vaughn can’t live without…

It’s been too long since I’ve read a Julie James novel.
This one starts out with a guy watching a girl on a date, and that date is crashing and burning.

Vaughn can’t help himself. He thinks she’s gorgeous, so he pulls up a chair.

Sidney is unimpressed.

She politely brushes him off too, but Vaughn can’t let it go. He works for the FBI and since it’s his job to size people up for a living, he can’t wait to hear why Sidney thinks she’s pegged him the moment he sat down. So in true Julie James fashion, the heroine lets the hero have it. But Sidney’s snark doesn’t overshadow that she’s right.

Vaughn can’t shrug it off, and Sidney instantly feels guilty knowing she took her frustration at her ex out on Vaughn.

So imagine their surprise when they meet for dinner. Sidney’s sister and Vaughn’s brother are getting married, and this dinner was supposed to be their introduction. Oops. So they play it off and pretend they’ve never met. Until they find out they’re spending the weekend together at Vaughn and his brother’s house.

The wedding was such a great backdrop for the romance, and I just love how their jobs aren’t just for show. Ms. James does her homework and it shows! I would love to see her try her hand at penning romantic suspense. She has all the components there. But as far as enjoyable and fun contemporary romances, you really can’t be a Julie James book.

Julie James’ trademark banter, snappy comebacks and swoonworthy heroes are all present and accounted for in this fun new addition to her FBI/US Attorney series.
